Daniel Basset

Since joining Elliott Wood in 2021, Daniel has led major commercial and hospitality developments, solving complex structural challenges while enhancing efficiency, reducing costs and embodied carbon, and maximising space. Passionate about sustainable and elegant structural solutions, Daniel specialises in dense urban environments with underground constraints, including Mail Rail, London Underground, and Thames Water infrastructure. He is currently leading the £65M redevelopment of 20 Giltspur Street, a 1990s office building, utilising innovative slab-jacking to add floors without increasing height—achieving significant carbon, cost, and programme savings while retaining 80% of the existing frame.

Professor Luke Bisby

Luke is Professor of Fire and Structures of the School of Engineering, at the University of Edinburgh. An educated Structural Engineer, Luke works with consultants, architects, fire scientists, regulators, sociologists and government to address fire safety in the built environment. In addition to his primary research focus, he is interested in the education and public engagement of science and engineering. He is involved in structural and fire safety engineering code and guidance development internationally, and routinely acts as an instructed expert witness in legal contexts relevant to fire safety and structural engineering.

David Brown

After graduating, David joined British Rail, including three years on bridge design and construction, and a period with responsibility for tunnels. He then joined a small steelwork contractor, becoming their Technical Director and learned steel design. After working for a large steelwork contractor, David joined the SCI, where he has remained for 30 years. He is responsible for the Blue and Green Book series, and a wide range of other publications. He regularly presents courses and webinars, as well as contributing high-level technical articles to the New Steel Construction magazine.

Stephen Dorer

Stephen is Operations Director at Deconstruct UK and responsible for all Steelwork operations for the business. This includes all permanent and temporary steelwork, design, manufacture and installation both in house and when working for other Main Contractors.

Dr Chris Durand

Current (Deputy) President of the BCSA, and Design Director at Severfield C & I in Northern Ireland. Chris is a Chartered Civil, Structural and Welding Engineer with over 30 years of experience working for both consultants and contractors but specialising in structural steelwork. He grew up and went to school in West London before studying Civil Engineering at the University of Dundee. He has been resident in Northern Ireland since 1994 where he worked for a consultancy in Belfast before taking up a position with Fisher Engineering in 1998.

Roy Fishwick

Roy has been involved with steel reuse and repurposing for 35 years at Cleveland Steel and Tubes. He progressed from works management, during which time he gained an understanding all of the practical business issues, to become Managing Director. Roy has worked closely with BCSA and SCI in producing industry guidance such as P440, A Supplementary Guide to Reusing Pre-1970 Steelwork, and closely monitors developments in Europe with regards to steel and construction products.

Chris Hendy

Chris is Professional Head of Bridge Engineering at AtkinsRéalis. In 2012 he was awarded the Royal Academy of Engineering Silver Medal, in 2013 elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy and awarded the Institution of Civil Engineer’s Gold Medal in 2016. Chris works across the whole lifecycle of bridge assets and has led some extremely complex bridge projects. He is Chairman of the BSI bridge committee, the UK’s Steel Bridge Group and fibUK. He has been instrumental in drafting the second generation Eurocodes EN 1993-1-5, EN 1993-2 and EN 1993-1-11.

Professor Leroy Gardner

Leroy is Professor and Head of Structural Engineering at Imperial College London and Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. He is engaged in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, industry training, specialist advisory work and leading an active research group in structural engineering. Prof. Gardner’s principal research interests relate to the testing, simulation, analysis, design and construction of steel structures. He is Editor-in-Chief of two international journals and serves on a number of ISO, European and US code committees. Prof. Gardner was awarded the IABSE prize in 2017 and the ASCE Shortridge Hardesty Award in 2021.

Dr David Moore

David is a Structural Engineer and Deputy CEO of the British Constructional Steelwork Association (BCSA). Previous roles at BCSA included Chief Executive Officer and Director of Engineer. He represents the UK and Republic of Ireland constructional steelwork sector, to raise industry standards, ensure reputational growth and influence at individual, industry and government levels. He is the chairman of the UK BSI mirror committee for the steel design and execution European standards. David’s areas of expertise are UKCA and CE Marking, connection design, design and execution of standards, and fire engineering.

Gavin Rogers

Gavin graduated from Queen’s University Belfast with a BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering in 2017, followed by an MSc in Construction and Project Management in 2018. He first joined Severfield C&I (NI) in 2015 during his industrial placement year as a Trainee Engineer and returned in 2019 as a Project Manager after completing his studies. Since then, he has led and contributed to a variety of projects across multiple sectors, including city centre office and retail developments, data centres, healthcare facilities, power and energy schemes, and industrial/process sites.

Dr Michael Sansom

Michael is a Civil Engineer and Chartered Environmentalist and is currently the Sustainability Director at the British Constructional Steelwork Association (BCSA). He has 25 years’ experience of environmental and sustainability work in consultancy, research and research management roles in the steel and construction sectors. Michael is responsible for sustainability at the BCSA; providing advice and support to Members and representing the steel construction sector within the wider construction sector.

Mungo Stacey

Mungo is Head of Profession for WSP’s Civil discipline. His involvement in the second generation Eurocodes includes, at European level, Vice Chair of TC 250/SC 1 Actions and member of Management Group for TC 250/SC 10 Basis of Design. He chairs the BSI committee responsible for actions and basis of design. Mungo is a technical lead for major projects including HS2 viaducts and the Fehmarnbelt immersed tube tunnel. He also undertakes advisory projects including the revision of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges.

Andrew Woodward

Andrew graduated from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand and went on to join WSP as an Associate in 1996. He has accumulated over 35 years of experience and worked with leading architects on award-winning buildings and innovative structures. He now oversees WSP’s UK industry business, working across a wide range of sectors and building types. In 2022, Andrew developed an innovative and award-winning CLT-Steel composite floor system. Additionally, he is a member of the BSI committee responsible for revising the Eurocode on composite steel and concrete structures.
